Society - Mumbles and West Cross Photographic society was founded in 1981 with the primary aim of promoting and encouraging photography in all its forms, catering for a wide range of member's ability and experience. The Society does not focus on any one type of photography and members' equipment ranges from the most basic, using commercial processing, to larger sophisticated systems, computer and darkroom facilities. The methods used are not so important as looking to improve one's results whatever the equipment. The Society is known for it's friendly, welcoming atmosphere and help is available at all times for those wishing to know the basics. Come and Join Us - The current meeting place is the former Fire Station on Fairwood Road, West Cross now called Tircoed. We meet on Wednesday evenings at 7.30 from January to December with a summers recess during July and August. There is plenty of private car parking space. Newcomers are encouraged to come along and try a number of meetings at the Society. Then, if they wish to join, membership is £25 per year with a weekly contribution of £1 to help towards the rental of the club house and the expenses of guest speakers and judges who often travel long distances. There are reductions for students. Annual Programme - The annual programme is varied and includes talks by outside speakers or members themselves. This year's programme is listed on the website. We arrange outings during the summer recess and there are competitions both within the Society (monthly competitions) and with other clubs in the area. We also take part in national and international competitions, principally through the Welsh Photographic Federation. We run an annual exhibition of members work in July and August.
